Non-conference action continues for North Coast teams this week with games scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. League play is set to begin on Saturday, September 15th when Denison (0-2, 0-0) visits DePauw (0-2, 0-0) in Greencastle.

ALLEGHENY rebounded from a disappointing season-opening loss with an outstanding non-conference win against perennial national power Otterbein. The Gators outshot both of their opponents during the opening weekend, including a 21-4 shot advantage over the last three halves.

DENISON opened the 2012 season with a pair of one-goal setbacks last weekend. Junior Jocelyn Festle (Park Ridge, IL/Loyola Academy) scored the first goal of the season against Mount Union, while first-year Joy Dennis (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park-River Forest) netted her first-collegiate goal against Hanover.

DEPAUW open the season with an 0-2 record after a 1-0 double overtime loss against UC Santa Cruz and a 3-1 defeat against Adrian. The DU Tigers lone weekend goal from Sophia Da Silveira (Naples, FL/Barron Collier), was her first goal in collegiate competition since scoring three in the 2010 campaign.

HIRAM split a pair of contests to open up the 2012 season falling to Houghton (N.Y.), 4-1, before bouncing back to defeat Medaille (N.Y), 3-1. Ernestina Zappa (Brooklyn, OH/Laurel) led the Terriers’ (1-1-0, 0-0-0) offensive charge on the weekend, scoring two goals and dishing out one assist.

KENYON split two games at home to open the 2012 season. After Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Hanover, the Ladies netted a trio of second-half goals Sunday to post a 3-2 win over Mount Union.

OBERLIN lost its season opener at St. Vincent College, 1-0. Sophomore goalie Kate Frost (Germantown, MD/Poolesville) kept the Yeowomen close, making nine saves in the setback.

Clarkson scored in the 64th minute and went on to defeat OHIO WESLEYAN in the first round of the Lotto Classic, hosted by St. Lawrence University on Saturday in Canton, N.Y. St. Lawrence scored once in each half to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in the second round of the Lotto Classic, hosted by St. Lawrence on Sunday in Canton, N.Y. Senior midfielder Jessie Huschart (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson), sophomore defender Sarah Stachowiak (Columbus, OH/Westlake), and junior goalkeeper Hannah Zacharias (Columbus, OH/Marysville) represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.

WITTENBERG started the season by dominating every phase of a match against Mount St. Joseph, winning 6-0 while holding the Lions to one shot. Strangely, the Lions and Tigers managed to play 132 minutes trying to complete the match, but failed to play 90 in either of two attempts. Lightning halted the first attempt on Saturday with 32 minutes remaining, and when the game was restarted Sunday, it was called final after only 77 minutes of play, again due to lightning. Junior transfer Kayla Murphy (Dayton, OH/Stebbins) landed the game-winning first goal in the 28th minute by collecting a rebound off the post from short range.

WOOSTER opened up the 2012 season with a perfect 2-0 weekend picking up wins against Marywood, (1-0), and Penn State Harrisburg, (5-0). Senior forward Erika Kay (Grosse Pointe Park, MI/Grosse Pointe South) led the Scots with two goals on seven shots.
