McMahon (Loveland, OH/Ursuline) have been named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2012 All-North Coast Athletic Conference women’s soccer selections after balloting by the league coaches. Wooster senior goalie Michelle Ring (Northville, MI/Ladywood) earned All-NCAC laurels for the fourth-straight year as a member of the first team in 2012 after earning honorable mention laurels in 2009, second-team honors in 2010 and honorable-mention accolades a year ago. Allegheny senior midfielder Ashley Lehr (Fairview, PA/Fairview) and Ohio Wesleyan senior Jessie Hushchart (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) both picked up their third All-NCAC nod in 2012 as members of the top squad as Lehr was a second-team selection in 2009 and a member of the honorable mention squad a year ago, while Hushchart picked up honorable-mention accolades in 2009 and second-team laurels last season. In addition, DePauw junior midfielder Angela Cotherman (Lake Forest, IL/Brewster Academy, NH) elevated to the top squad in 2012 after being an honorable-mention selection in 2011. Kay {left}, who makes her second appearance on the All-NCAC team after collecting honorable mention laurels in 2010, led the Fighting Scots with 22 points after netting nine goals and dishing out four assists in 18 total games. Wooster accumulated an overall record of 12-6-1 in 2012, including a mark of 7-1-0 in NCAC games to finish second in the league standings. Kay is the first Wooster player to earn NCAC Offensive Player of the Year laurels since Erin Lustic claimed the honor in 2006.
McMahon {right}, who is the first Wittenberg defender since 2009 to win the Defensive Player of the Year award, helped guide the Tigers to their first regular season title since 2007 by bolstering the defensive unit that has surrendered just 10 goals in 18 games this season. Although the Tigers were eliminated from the NCAC Tournament in the semifinal round, the squad has earned one of the 20 at-large bids into the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament where they will take on Wisconsin-Whitewater in the opening round on Friday (11/9) at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. McMahon makes her debut on the All-NCAC first team and her second consecutive appearance on the all-conference squad after earning second-team laurels last season.
Witte {left} was also selected as the NCAC’s Newcomer of the Year. She was second on the Big Red squad in 2012 with 11 points after scoring four goals and dishing out three assists in 18 total matches.
Wittenberg head coach Kwame Lloyd {right} was voted the NCAC Coach of the Year for the first time in his career after leading the Tigers to the 2012 NCAC Championship with a league record of 7-0-1. The Tigers, who enter the 2012 NCAA Div. III Women’s Tournament with an overall record of 11-4-3, will be looking for their first NCAA victory since defeating Ohio Northern, 3-1, in the opening round in 2009. Lloyd currently holds a record of 19-13-4 in two seasons at the helm at Wittenberg.
