OHIO WESLEYAN CLAIMS SIXTH STRAIGHT WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
DAVIS, MARTORELLA AND BUTLER NAMED MVPS

2012 All-NCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Team

The Ohio Wesleyan women successfully defended their team title at the 2012 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at Wabash March 2-3.

The Ohio Wesleyan women claimed their sixth-straight NCAC title and 11th all-time after winning five events and placing in the top-three in 10 others to total 192 points. Oberlin was second in the women’s standings with 108 points after winning two events and posting five top-three finishes. Kenyon was third in the final standings with 85 points, followed by DePauw (81), Wooster (75), Wittenberg (60), Allegheny (58) and Denison (43).

Ohio Wesleyan head coach Kris Boey {right} was named the NCAC Women’s Coach of the Year for the second year in a row and the fifth time overall.  Boey, in his 10th year at Ohio Wesleyan, has led the OWU women’s squad to six NCAC indoor titles (2007-’12) and four outdoor championships (2007, ‘09-’11).

2012 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year

Women’s Sprint/Hurdles - Tiffany Davis, Denison
Denison Sophomore Tiffany Davis (Madison, TN/Pope John Paul II) took first in both the 60-meter dash (7.85) and the 200-meter dash (25.79), and was a member of the fourth place 4x400-meter relay and the fifth place 4x200-meter relay. Davis' clocking in the 200-meter surpassed former DU graduate Jackie Berner's 2002 NCAC record in the event of 25.82.

 

Women’s Distance - Molly Martorella, Oberlin
Oberlin sophomore Molly Martorella (Winchendon, MA/Murdock) won the one-mile run with a NCAC record time of 4:58.32 and crossed the line first in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:23.73.

 

 

Women’s Field - Lauren Butler, Allegheny
Allegheny senior Lauren Butler (New Kensington, PA/Kiski) earned her third consecutive Field Athlete of the Year award after taking first in the shot put with a toss of 12.31 meters and second in the weight throw with a heave of 13.51 meters.
