NCAC Weekly Release (9-24-12) - Women's Golf
ALLEGHENY junior Sarah Vorder Bruegge (Palm Beach Gardens, FL/The Benjamin School) carded a six-over par 79 to finish in a tie for second on Sunday after the first round of the 2012 Allegheny Invitational. The Gators are currently leading the event after totaling 336 strokes on day one.
Allegheny and DEPAUW also closed out competition at the O’Brien Invitational on Monday, September 17th, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The Tigers finished fourth overall with a two-day total of 649 (332-317), led by junior Kelsey Smith (Indianapolis, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) who finished second overall after carding a 153, including a tournament-low round of 70 in the second round. The Gators were led at the event by junior Miranda Santucci (Carnegie, PA/Winchester-Thurston) who finished in a tie for seventh with a 36-hole total of 157 (78-79).
DEPAUW hosted DENISON, OHIO WESLEYAN, WITTENBERG and a grouping of non-conference squads at its annual Small College Classic at Deer Creek Golf Club, September 22-23. The DPU Tigers won the event with a 36-hole total of 662 (329-333), followed by Wittenberg in second with 669 strokes (342-327), Denison in fourth with 694 strokes (359-335) and Ohio Wesleyan in sixth with 735 strokes (381-354). DU freshman Brynn FitzGerald (Pepper Pike, OH/Orange) was the top NCAC-finisher at the event in second-place overall after carding a 161 (83-78), while DPU’s Kelsey Smith tied for third with a two-day total of 164 (82-82). In addition, Wittenberg freshman Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) fired a two-day total of 166 (87-79) to finish in a tie for fifth, while Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Sarah McQuade (Dublin, OH/Coffman) tied for 14th in the overall standings with 172 strokes (91-81).
HIRAM finished second overall at the rain-shortened Heidelberg University Fall Invitational at Mowhawk Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio. The event was shortened to a single-day, 18-hole tournament after the first round was washed out on Saturday due to rain. Ohio Northern captured the team title with 359 strokes, followed by Hiram (409) and Muskingum (427). The Terriers were led by freshman Megan Jennings (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) who shot a 95 (48-47).
