Five NCAC Women's Basketball Players Named To D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team; Oberlin's Marquette Named Rookie Of The Year

2012 D3hoops.com Women's Basketball All-Great Lakes Region Team

Five North Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball players were named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team and Oberlin freshman Christina Marquette (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) was tabbed Rookie of the Year. Along with Oberlin, DePauw, Allegheny, and Kenyon were also represented on one of the three all-region squads.

DePauw senior Katie Aldrich (Lexington, KY/Lafayette), the NCAC Player of the Year, was tabbed a first-team selection. Aldrich also appeared on the All-NCAC first-team. Allegheny junior Heidi Goeller (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) was placed on the second-team after earning her second-consecutive All-NCAC first-team selection.

A trio of North Coast athletes made the third-team, including Allegheny sophomore Erica Restich (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley), Kenyon sophomore Maureen Hirt (Bloomington, IN/North) and DePauw sophomore Ali Ross (Lexington, KY/Lafayette). Restich was a first-team All-NCAC selection this season after being selected to the second-team last year. Hirt also made the All-NCAC first team and was an honorable mention selection in 2010-11. Ross joined them on the All-NCAC first team for the first time in her career.

Marquette earned Rookie of the Year honors for the second time this season after also earning the feat in the North Coast. She was also a second-team All-NCAC selection.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. There were 683 players nominated nationwide, a new high. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their respective regions.
