ALL-NCAC VOLLEYBALL SQUAD ANNOUNCED; WITTENBERG’S SUMNER SELECTED PLAYER OF THE YEAR
 
2011 All-NCAC Volleyball Team
 
CLEVELAND -- Wittenberg senior Katie Sumner (Dublin, OH/Watterson) {right} has been named Player of the Year to highlight the 2011 All-North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball selections. Sumner, a 5-9 middle hitter, led Wittenberg with 85 total blocks (1.02 per set) and 0.22 service aces per set. She led the Tigers to the 2011 NCAC Championship with a 16-0 league mark, 31-3 overall. Sumner earns first-team recognition for the third consecutive season.

Hiram seniors Shaina Bryan (South Euclid, OH/Brush) and Kristi Opfer (Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) join Sumner as repeat first-team selections. Two players move up from the second team. Wooster senior Lizzi Beal (Bowling Green, KY/ Greenwood) makes her debut on the first team after earning second-team nods in 2009 and 2010 and honorable mention in 2008. Wittenberg senior Kimmie Dyer (Copley, OH/Copley) moves up after being selected to the second team as a junior. DePauw senior Abby Balbach (McCordsville, IN/Mt. Vernon) is the only player on the 2011 squad to make her debut on the All-NCAC team as a member of the first team.

Wittenberg freshman Meghan Vodopich (Canton, OH/Massillon Perry) {below left} was voted Newcomer of the Year. Tiger junior Christina Gilene (Milford, OH/McNicholas) {below right} picks up Liberio of the Year recognition, and is a second-team choice.
 
 
Wittenberg head coach Paco Labrador {left} was voted NCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time. He guided the Tigers to a share of their 17th NCAC crown with a 16-0 conference mark and a 31-3 overall record. Labrador, who earned coach of the year honors in 2006, 2007 aand 2010, has a career record of 290-41 in nine years as Wittenberg’s mentor.
