Denison (28-19) dropped a heartbreaker against third-seeded Alma College,6-5, iun the opening round of the Alma Regional in Michigan. The Big Red held a 5-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but Alma scored four runs with two outs to end the game. The loss forced DU into the loser’s bracket.

On Friday, Freshman Julie Rooney (Munroe Falls, OH/Stoe-Munroe Falls) hit a walk-off single to keep Denison’s NCAA Tournament run alive. The Big Red eliminated Penn State-Behrend following a 5-4 come-from-behind victory. Denison entered the bottom of the seventh in a two-run hole, but got the rally started with three consecutive singles, setting up Rooney’s heroics. With the count sitting at 1-1, the first-year third baseman drove a single up the middle that scored the final two runs to secure the victory.

Denison saw it’s magical season come to a close in the third elimination game of the NCAA Alma Regional after falling to Chicago, 1-0.
