2012 All-NCAC Softball Team Announced

2012 All-NCAC Softball Team

Allegheny junior Stephanie Fort (Midlothian, VA/St. Catherine's School) was named Player of the Year and Allegheny freshman pitcher Caitlin Nealer (New Kensington, PA/Valley) took Pitcher of the Year honors to highlight the 2012 All-North Coast Athletic Conference softball selections.

Fort, who also makes her first-career appearance as a member of the first team, led all NCAC hitters in league games with six home runs and 21 runs scored to go along with 11 RBI and a .426 batting average (20-of-47). In addition, Fort totaled five home runs, four doubles and one triple to accumulate an .872 slugging percentage in 16 NCAC games this season.

Nealer, in her first collegiate season, garnered the Pitcher of the Year distinction after leading the NCAC in nearly every major pitching category in league games this season, including ERA (1.07), innings pitched (92.0), strike outs (72), wins (12), appearances (14) and games started (14).

Wooster freshman outfielder Demi Hart (Shreve, OH/Triway) was named Newcomer of the Year by vote of the league coaches after hitting .453 (24-of-53) in NCAC contests with six doubles, three triples, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored. Hart was also an All-NCAC first-team selection.

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Dani Haley (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) is the lone repeat first-team performer from a year ago, while Kenyon junior Jamie Samuel (Malibu, CA/Malibu) makes her second career appearance on the first team after also earning the distinction in 2010.

Allegheny's Sandra Sanford earns Coach of the Year recognition for the second time in her career. Sanford guided the Gators to their fifth NCAC Championship all-time after posting a 12-4 record in league contests this season. In nine years at the helm of the Allegheny softball program, Sanford has compiled an overall record of 176-160-1 (.524).
