Championship Recap:
Second-seeded DePauw (13-1-5) needed regulation, two overtime periods and the penalty kick session to earn its second straight NCAC Tournament championship Saturday evening in Delaware, Ohio. The DPU Tigers knocked off top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (13-2-5) 4-2 in the penalty kick session which was a rematch of last years tournament championship. The Tigers were outshot 27 to 12 but got six saves from senior goalkeeper Tony Halterman (Dyer, IN/Lake Central) including a huge stop in the PK session, while senior Andrew Desmarais (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) secured the win for the Tigers by burying his penalty attempt. With the victory, the Tigers have earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Div. III Men's Soccer Tournament for the second straight year. Ohio Wesleyan, the defending National Champions, must now wait until Monday to learn if the Battling Bishops make a return trip to the tournament field.

Semifinal Recaps:

Top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (7-1-1, 13-2-4) needed regulation, two overtime periods and the penalty kick session to get past fourth-seeded Kenyon (5-2-2, 9-6-3) in the semifinal round of the 2012 NCAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The Battling Bishops, who will now square off against DePauw for the second-straight year in the NCAC Tournament championship tilt in Delaware on Saturday evening, survived the upset bid at the hands of the Lord with a 3-2 triumph in the penalty kick shootout session. The defensive struggle featured OWU senior goalie Paul Hendricks (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) corral eight saves, including two clutch stops in the PK session, while KC sophomore goalie James Smith (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle) finished the contest with four stops in regulation.

Second-seeded DePauw (6-1-2, 13-1-4) used a strong second-half surge to get past third-seeded Hiram (6-2-1, 15-3-1) by a 3-2 margin in the semifinal round of the 2012 NCAC Men's Soccer Tournament on Thursday evening in Greencastle, Indiana. Hiram jumped on top early with a goal in the 29th minute off the toe of senior Ty Smith (Rocky River, OH/St. Ignatius), but DPU answered to tie the game at 1-1 in the 32nd minute with a tally from sophomore Andy Morrison (Bristol, IN/Northridge). The Terriers assumed the halftime lead, 2-1, on an unassisted goal by sophomore Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland, OH/West Geauga) in the 36th minute. The score remained tied early in the second half, but DPU fired back-to-back goals by sophomore Nate Snyder (Carmel, IN/Carmel) and Morrison in the 57th and 58th minute, respectively, to secure the come-from-behind victory. The win ensures the Tigers a return trip to the NCAC Tournament Championship match for the second year in a row.

Ohio Wesleyan (7-1-1, 13-2-3) earned its fifth-straight North Coast championship with a pair of wins last week. The Battling Bishops defeated Kenyon, 2-0, and Denison, 2-1, to collect their league-leading 21st conference title. Kenyon has won the second most conference crowns with six, followed by Wooster (3), Denison (2) and Wittenberg (1).

The Battling Bishops enter the NCAC Tournament as the top seed and will host fourth-seeded Kenyon (5-2-2, 9-6-2) on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in a re-match of last weeks contest that saw OWU come away with a 2-0 victory. Second-seeded DePauw (6-1-2, 12-1-4) will host third-seeded Hiram (6-2-1, 15-2-1) in the other semifinal match at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Since joining the NCAC last year, the DPU Tigers are a perfect 3-0 against the Terriers with three one-goal victories including a 2-1 OT in last years NCAC Tournament Semifinal. The championship game is set for Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed to emerge from the semifinal round.

Tourney Notes: The tournament winner receives the NCAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament ... DePauw returns to its second straight tournament as the defending champions after the Tigers knocked off Ohio Wesleyan in last years title game 4-2 ... Ohio Wesleyan, which owns eight NCAC tournament titles, is the only member school that has competed in every tournament since its inaugural year in 2000 ... Hiram earned a berth in the field of four for the second straight year and fourth all time, while Kenyon  returns to the tournament for the fourth time in five years and its sixth appearance all time
