WABASH CLAIMS 2013 MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK TITLE
BOYCE, DE ST JEAN AND FREET NAMED MVPs

The Wabash College men’s squad and the Ohio Wesleyan women’s team captured the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field team titles on Saturday at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.  Wabash picked up its third-straight NCAC men’s crown after totaling 275.50 team points to edge out Ohio Wesleyan (148.50) for the team title, while Ohio Wesleyan earned its fifth-straight women’s title after earning 216 points to edge out Oberlin (209) for the women’s team title.

Wabash and Ohio Wesleyan were followed in the men’s standings by Wittenberg (74), Oberlin (68), Denison (62), Allegheny (59), Kenyon (51), DePauw (49) and Wooster (31).

Wabash head coach Clyde Morgan was named the NCAC Men’s Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season, while Ohio Wesleyan head coach Kris Boey was selected as the NCAC Women’s Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row and the sixth time in the past seven seasons.

2013 NCAC Track & Field Athletes of the Year

Men’s Distance/Middle Distance: Nick Boyce, Wabash
Wabash sophomore Nick Boyce (Indianapolis, IN/Chatard) set an NCAC record, winning the 1,500-meter run in 3:54.02, breaking the old mark of 3:54.07.

 

Men’s Sprints/Hurdles: Ethan Freet, Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio Wesleyan senior Ethan Freet (London,OH/London) set an NCAC record, winning the 400-meter hurdles in 52.45 to break the conference mark of 52.86. He also anchored the Ohio Wesleyan 4x400-meter relay team which set an NCAC record by breaking the tape in 3:13.09.

 

Men’s Field: Derek De St Jean, Wabash
Wabash sophomore Derek De St Jean (St. John, IN/Hanover) won the men’s shot put (50’00.50”), men’s discus throw (148’09.00”) and the men’s hammer (173’05.00”).
