NCAC Weekly Release (5-7-12) - Men's Lacrosse
For the third consecutive season, the North Coast Athletic Conference will have three representatives in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. Both Denison (13-1) and Ohio Wesleyan (10-4) will be appearing in the national tournament for the eighth year in a row, while Kenyon (10-4) is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 2008 season. All three NCAC squads were Pool B at-large selections into the tournament field.
Denison, which is making its 20th appearance all-time in the national tournament, will host Adrian (17-1) in an opening round game on Wednesday, May 9th at 2:00 PM at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville. DU, which is 4-1 in opening round contests since 2006, will be hosting a first-round game for the sixth time in the last seasons. The winner of the Denison/Adrian contest will advance to Saturday’s second round to face Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Kenyon is making its fourth overall appearance in the national tournament and will travel to Dickinson (14-3) for an opening round contest on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. The winner of the KC/Dickinson contest will move on to the second round to face the winner of the Cabrini/Eastern opening round game.
Ohio Wesleyan was selected to the national tournament field for the 26th time in school history and will make the trip to Gettysburg (10-6) for its opening round game on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. OWU and Gettysburg have met twice in the NCAA Tournament, with each team earning on a win on its home field. The teams most recently met during the 2005 tournament with the Bullets taking a 16-9 decision. The winner of the Ohio Wesleyan/Gettysburg game will advance to face the winner of Wednesday’s opening round game between Stevenson and Birmingham Southern in a second-round contest on Saturday.
The site and time for second round games that are not already determined will be announced by the NCAA on Thursday, May 10th.
This year’s NCAA Div. III Championship Game will be played on May 27th at Gillete Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, at 4:00 PM.
