Denison University

Denison University is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences.  Founded in 1831 as a literary and theological institution by frontier Baptists, Denison has since evolved into an independently administered and financed university providing students with a challenging academic curriculum of the highest quality and a vast array of diverse extracurricular programs. The University offers three different bachelor's degrees (B.A., B.S. and B.F.A.) among 49 major fields of study.  There are also interdepartmental majors and individually designed majors for those who desire a truly personalized education.

Full-time enrollment is 2,050, divided nearly equally between men and women. About one-third are residents of Ohio and another third are from the Mid-Atlantic or New England regions.  In a typical year, all 50 states are represented and international students come to Denison from more than 30 countries around the world. Ethnic minorities make up approximately 10 percent of the student population.

Denison operates on a two-semester academic calendar from September to May.  The three-week May Term is a period for students to travel or take advantage of numerous internships with professors, corporate organizations and government agencies.  More than 500 courses and 800 classes are offered each year; the average class size is 19, with a student/faculty ratio of approximately 10/1. About half of Denison's graduates continue their education at graduate and professional schools across the United States and abroad.  Each year, Denison grads are accepted to top law, medical, dental and business schools.  The University's Career Development Center assists students in their preparation for these programs.  Dale T. Knobel became Denison's 19th president on July 1, 1998.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-25-11) -- Cross Country

Seven North Coast Athletic Conference schools will be represented at the All-Ohio Championships, to be held at Cedarville University on Friday. Wabash is the only other conference team scheduled to see action this week as they will run at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday night and at the Earlham Invitational on Saturday.

Denison's Fioroni Named To D3football.com Team Of The Week

Denison junior Sam Fioroni (Clarkston, MI/Orchard Lake St. Mary's) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after registering a career-high 213 yard rushing performance in Denison's 42-14 victory over NCAC foe Hiram last Saturday.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-18-11) -- Volleyball

The first round of NCAC competition begins next weekend with an NCAC playdate event at Kenyon. Every North Coast school will play four matches, two each on Saturday and Sunday. The four teams that each squad does not face this weekend will provide the opposition at the second playdate event, at Wooster October 15-16.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-18-11) -- Cross Country

Both OHIO WESLEYAN teams won their respective divisions at the Pre-NCAC Invitational. Senior Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) was the top Battling Bishop runner in the men’s race.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-18-11) -- Field Hockey

Denison (2-0, 5-0), DePauw (2-0, 3-1) and Wooster (2-0, 3-2) share the early lead in the conference race. On Tuesday, the Big Red and the Fighting Scots meet in a showdown in Granville that will give one of those squads their first NCAC loss.

Seven NCAC squads began action at Allegheny’s Guy W. Kuhn Invitational at Meadville Country Club on Sunday afternoon, including Allegheny, Denison, DePauw, Oberlin, Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Wooster. Wabash will also conclude play at the Anderson Invitational this weekend.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-18-11) -- Women's Soccer

League play got underway in the North Coast last week as DePauw (3-3-0, 1-0-0) secured its first-ever NCAC victory with a 1-0 triumph over Denison (3-3-1, 0-1-0) on Saturday. Conference contests continue  this week as Hiram (2-2-0, 0-0-0) travels to DePauw on Saturday and Wittenberg (3-3-0, 0-0-0) hosts Allegheny (4-2-0, 0-0-0) on Sunday.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-18-11) -- Men's Soccer

North Coast play opened up last week with DePauw (5-1-0, 1-0-0) picking up its first-ever league win in men’s soccer with a 1-0 triumph over Denison (3-2-1, 0-1-0). League play continues next Saturday as Hiram (3-0-1, 0-0-0) travels to DePauw, Kenyon (2-3-1, 0-0-0) hosts Denison and Wabash (3-3-1, 0-0-0) travels to Oberlin (2-5-0, 0-0-0). Allegheny (6-1-0, 0-0-0) and Wittenberg (3-2-1, 0-0-0) also meet in an NCAC clash next Sunday.

NCAC Weekly Release (9-18-11) -- Women's Golf

ALLEGHENY and DEPAUW wrapped up competition at the competitive O’Brien National Invitational at The Warren at Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana last Monday. The Tigers finished second out of 10 teams at the event with a two-day total of 631, just one stroke behind 11-time defending NCAA Div. III National Champion Methodist University.

Through the first two weeks of play in the North Coast, Wabash (2-0, 2-0) currently sits at the top of the league standings, while Wittenberg (3-0, 1-0) and Denison (2-1, 1-0) are also undefeated in league play. Conference matchups will continue this week with Hiram (1-2, 1-1) traveling to Oberlin (1-1, 0-0), Wittenberg hosting Allegheny (2-1, 0-0) and Ohio Wesleyan (1-2, 0-2) traveling to Wooster (1-2, 0-1).
