Denison University

Denison University is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences.  Founded in 1831 as a literary and theological institution by frontier Baptists, Denison has since evolved into an independently administered and financed university providing students with a challenging academic curriculum of the highest quality and a vast array of diverse extracurricular programs. The University offers three different bachelor's degrees (B.A., B.S. and B.F.A.) among 49 major fields of study.  There are also interdepartmental majors and individually designed majors for those who desire a truly personalized education.

Full-time enrollment is 2,050, divided nearly equally between men and women. About one-third are residents of Ohio and another third are from the Mid-Atlantic or New England regions.  In a typical year, all 50 states are represented and international students come to Denison from more than 30 countries around the world. Ethnic minorities make up approximately 10 percent of the student population.

Denison operates on a two-semester academic calendar from September to May.  The three-week May Term is a period for students to travel or take advantage of numerous internships with professors, corporate organizations and government agencies.  More than 500 courses and 800 classes are offered each year; the average class size is 19, with a student/faculty ratio of approximately 10/1. About half of Denison's graduates continue their education at graduate and professional schools across the United States and abroad.  Each year, Denison grads are accepted to top law, medical, dental and business schools.  The University's Career Development Center assists students in their preparation for these programs.  Dale T. Knobel became Denison's 19th president on July 1, 1998.

NCAC Weekly Release (4-29-13) - Baseball

The North Coast regular season will conclude this weekend with cross-over series between teams from the East and West divisions. The winners of the top-4 series will advance to the 2013 NCAC Baseball Tournament, while the fifth series will be played for position in the final standings. The NCAC Baseball Tournament will be played at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, May 9-11. The final matchups for the cross-over series will be announced on Wednesday evening following the completion of divisional play.

NCAC Weekly Release (4-29-13) - T&F Pre-Championship Poll

The 29th annual North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held this weekend (May 3-4) at Wilder Track on the campus of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. The Wabash men will look to defend the North Coast title, while the Ohio Wesleyan women look for their fifth league crown in a row and the sixth in the past seven seasons. Both squads have been tabbed as the favorites this year on the pre-championship coaches’ polls.

NCAC Weekly Release (4-29-13) - Men's Lacrosse

Second-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (6-1, 13-5) claimed the inaugural NCAC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship with an 10-9 victory over top-seeded Denison (7-0, 13-3) on Saturday, April 27th, in Granville, Ohio. With the victory, the Battling Bishops have earned the NCAC’s automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA Div. III Tournament. The Championship field is set to be announced May 5th, with first round action scheduled for May 8th.

NCAC Weekly Release (4-29-13) - Golf Championship Series, Event 1

The first event of the 2013 NCAC Golf Championship Series was contested last weekend (Apr. 27-28) at the Granville Golf Course, in Granville, Ohio. Three-time defending NCAC men’s golf champion Wittenberg leads after the first event with a 36-hole team total of 586 (295-291), while DePauw, the 2012 NCAC women’s golf champion, sits atop the women’s leaderboard after the first event with a two-day team total of 632 (317-315).

NCAC Weekly Release (4-29-13) - 2013 NCAC Tennis Championships

The 2013 NCAC Tennis Championships concluded on Sunday evening at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. The Kenyon men captured their seventh-straight NCAC championship after defeating DePauw, 5-1, in Sunday night’s championship match, while the DePauw women captured their second-consecutive NCAC women’s tennis title after defeating Denison, 5-4, in Sunday afternoon’s women’s championship match.

Kenyon Earns 2013 NCAC Men's Tennis Championship

The Kenyon men's tennis team captured their sixth-straight and 16th all-time NCAC men's tennis championship on Sunday evening with a 5-1 decision over DePauw. As conference champions, the Lords (23-3) have earned the league's automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA Div. III Men's Tennis Tournament.

DePauw Captures 2013 NCAC Women's Tennis Championship

The DePauw women's tennis team defeated Denison, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the 2013 NCAC Women's Tennis Championships. With the victory, the Tigers (17-7) have earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament.

Ohio Wesleyan Claims Inaugural NCAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament

Second-seeded Ohio Wesleyan (13-5) claimed the inaugural NCAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament with an 10-9 victory over top-seeded Denison (13-3) on Saturday evening in Granville. With the victory, the Battling Bishops have earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Div. III Men's Lacrosse Tournament. DePauw Women & Wittenberg Men Favored For 2013 NCAC Golf Championship Series

The Wittenberg men and DePauw women emerged as favorites in the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference men's and women's pre-championship golf polls, respectively, based on balloting from league coaches. Denison will host the first of two NCAC Golf Championship Series events this weekend (Apr. 27-28) at Granville Golf Club. Event two is scheduled for May 4-5 at Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio. For both events, the men and women will play 36 holes over two days, with 18 holes being played on both Saturday and Sunday. The top team finisher after all rounds are completed will be crowned the conference champion, while the individual medalist honors will go to the top man and woman after the completion of both championship events. Both the men's and women's team champion will receive the league's automatic bid into their respective NCAA Division III National Championship.
