Allegheny junior Bobby Over (Wadsworth, OH/Wadsworth) and Wabash senior Kevin McCarthy (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) were both named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Athletes of the Year in their respectives regions.
21 North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey athletes were named to the 2011 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Div. III All-Region. 11 NCAC student-athletes were named to the first team, while 10 earned second-team laurels. The 2011 Longstreth/NFHCA Div. III All-American Teams will be announced on Monday, November 21st.
Ohio Wesleyan senior forward Makinzie Krebsbach (Vadnais Hts., MN/Totino-Grace) and Allegheny senior defender Kira Kliment (Roebling, NJ/The Pennington School) have been named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year to highlight the 2011 All-North Coast Athletic Conference women’s soccer selections after balloting by league coaches.
Ted Stanley resigned as Kenyon's head football coach on Monday, after nine seasons at the College. Stanley leaves Kenyon after several years in which the football program has struggled to attract recruits and to find success on the field. The team posted 0-10 records in each of the past two seasons. Stanley's overall coaching record at Kenyon is 20-70.
The Ohio Wesleyan men's soccer team and the Wittenberg volleyball team remain alive in their respective NCAA Fall Tournaments and will continue their national championship quests in the coming week.
North Coast Athletic Conference champion Wabash (10-0) has earned its sixth trip to the NCAA Div. III Tournament after running the table in the regular season for the ninth time in program history. The Little Giants will host Illinois College (9-1) on Saturday for a 12:00 kickoff. The Illinois College Blueboys, out of the Midwest Conference, earned their first-ever bid into the NCAA Div. III Football Tournament with one of the six possible at-large bids.
The NCAA Division III Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championships, hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh, will be contested at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin on Saturday. Two teams from each regional automatically qualified for the national meet.
ALLEGHENY continued its hot start by finishing in first in 19 of the 26 events swam last week to secure a pair of wins over Gannon and PSU-Behrend. Junior Brandon Intrieri (Erie, PA/McDowell) set an NCAA “B” cut time and set the pool record at Gannon with a time of 50.50 in the 100 butterfly, and also set the pool record in the 50 free in a time of 21.21.
Wittenberg reached the quarterfinal round of the 2011 NCAA Div, III Volleyball Tournament after knocking off Calvin, 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-10) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday night. The Tigers (34-3) will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for the NCAA quarterfinals on Friday, November 18th. In addition, Hiram (27-9) was eliminated from the national tournament by Eastern University by a 3-2 decision (25-23, 25-9, 20-25, 20-25, 15-13).
Hiram (27-8) advanced to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Div. III Tournament with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18) victory over Stevenson on Friday afternoon at the Eastern University Regional at Neumann University in Aston, PA, while Wittenberg (33-3) advanced to the regional final match at the Calvin College Regional with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16) victory over Heidelberg.
