For the second consecutive season, Denison led all North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) members in the final standings for the 2011-12 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup in 33rd-place (435.50). DePauw finished in 42nd-place with 368.50 points, while Wittenberg rounded out the top 50 teams in the standings in 50th (317.25).
Seven North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) track & field/cross country student-athletes earned first-team laurels on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 7 Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on May 31.
Kenyon junior Tyler Dierke (Hudson, WI/Hudson) and recent Oberlin senior Jason James (Lakewood, CO/Mullen) were both third-team selections on the 2012 Div. III Capital One Academic All-American Team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 30th.
Wittenberg sophomore David Wetterich (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) earned second team PING All-American honors after finishing in 14th-place at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.
The 2011-12 athletic season officially came to a close in the North Coast Athletic Conference last week at the NCAA Div. III Tennis Championships and the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Kenyon men's tennis squad completed its best season in school history as the national runners-up, while Wabash junior Jake Waterman (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) earned his first career national title in the 800-meter run.
Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons announced Thursday that Doug Zipp has accepted the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Zipp, who was selected from a pool of more than 100 candidates, takes over the position from Wayne Edwards.
Wabash College President Patrick E. White has announced that he will step down as the College’s 15th president at the conclusion of the next academic year in June 2013. Dr. White has just concluded his sixth year at the helm of the private liberal arts college for men.
Denison senior defender Carly Tschantz (Omaha, NE/New Trier (IL)) was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American squad, released on May 23rd. Tschantz, who was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year, helped the Big Red compile an impressive overall record 15-5, which included the program's 17th all-time NCAC title.
Three Denison University men's lacrosse players were named to the 2012 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-American squad. All three Big Red student-athletes were named to the Honorable Mention team, including senior attack Cory Couture (Coronado, CA/Coronado), senior midfielder Davis Lukens (Marietta, GA/Holy Innocent's Episcopal) and senior defender Nick Farrell (New York, NY/Millbrook School). In addition, the trio was also selected to participate in the 71st annual USILA/LaxWorld Division III Senior North/South Game. This year's game will be played at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass. on Friday (May 25) at 3 p.m.
The Kenyon men's team saw its historic season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon in Cary, North Carolina, as the Lords fell to Emory, 5-3, in the NCAA Div. III National Championship Match at the Cary Tennis Center. The Lords, who competed in their first-ever National Championship Match, conclude the season with a remarkable overall record of 24-5, which included their sixth-straight NCAC Championship.
