Five NCAC Track & Field Athletes Qualify For Saturday Finals At 2012 NCAA Div. III Nationals

Five NCAC indoor track & field student-athletes will compete in the finals on Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Championships held at Grinnell College in Iowa. Tomorrow's running event finals begin with the men's one-mile run at 3:30 p.m. CDT and conclude with the women's 4x400-meter relay at 6:15 p.m. CDT.

Wabash senior Kevin McCarthy (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) posted the first qualifying time in Friday's preliminary races in the one-mile run with the third-fastest time of the evening (4:12.74), while his teammate Jake Waterman (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) also qualified for Saturday's final in the 800-meter run with the second-fastest clocking of the night (1:52.61).

A pair of freshman also earned spots in Saturday's finals as Wittenberg's Victor Banjo (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin) posted a time of 6.86 in the men's 60-meter dash and Ohio Wesleyan's Katie Reid (Marion, OH/Harding) advanced in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.02.

Finally, Denison senior Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, OH/Lakewood) will compete in tomorrow's men's 5,000-meter run finals at 5:15 p.m. CDT.

In addition, Oberlin sophomore Molly Martorella (Winchendon, MA/Murdock) competed in the women's one-mile run and Kenyon junior Kirkley Doyle (Madison, WI/West) competed in the women's 800-meter run during Friday night's women's preliminary races. The Wabash distance medley relay was also in action on Friday, finishing 10th overall with a time of 10:42.95.
