The North Coast Athletic Conference crowned four Fall Sport Tournament champions on Saturday, November 9th. Allegheny won its first-ever women's soccer title, while Ohio Wesleyan earned its ninth soccer tournament title on the men's side. In field hockey, DePauw claimed its second-straight title and Wittenberg was crowned champions of the volleyball tournament for the seventh-straight year. Oberlin College has received an $8 million gift from the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation to create a new, multipurpose athletics complex that is positioned to be one of the finest Division III facilities in the country. The Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex at Oberlin College will be named in honor of the late Ohio businessman who created the foundation through his estate to support colleges and universities throughout the Midwest.
Wittenberg sophomore Kara Seidenstricker (London, OH/Jonathan Alder) was the NCAC's lone member on the 2013 Capital One Academic squad as a first-team selection in District 7. Seidenstricker makes her first career appearance on a the Academic All-District squad with a 4.00 grade-point-average as a education major. As a member of the first team, she will now advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first- second, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Football Teams on November 7th. The North Coast was well represented on the list with one student-athlete on the District 4 team and six on the District 7 team.
A pair of former Denison student-athletes tops the list of players selected to the North Coast Athletic Conference's 30th Anniversary All-Decade women's basketball team. 2011 graduate Shaina Kaiser is the only player on the list to earn multiple Player of the Year honors in the previous decade, while 2007 graduate Kristen Sheffield is the only four-time All-NCAC performer in the last 10 years to be named to the all-decade team.
Two former College of Wooster standouts highlighted the list of players selected to the North Coast Athletic Conference's 30th Anniversary All-Decade men's basketball team. 2008 graduate James Cooper and 2011 graduate Ian Franks were the only two players in the last decade to be named the NCAC Player of the Year on two different occasions.
Eight North Coast Athletic Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Soccer Squad, released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). All eight student-athletes were first-team honorees and will now advance to the Academic All-America soccer ballots.
