Cabrini Eliminates Wooster From NCAA Div. III Men's Basketball Tournament

The Wooster men's basketball team saw its 2012-13 season come to an end on Saturday night with a 70-63 setback against Cabrini in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. The Fighting Scots, who were champions of the North Coast Athletic Conference for the 14th time, closed out the season with a 24-6 record.

DePauw Women's Basketball Advances to National Championship Game

DePauw (33-0) advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship game with a 59-56 victory over Williams (25-7) in the semifinals on Friday, March 15, in Holland, Mi.

The Tigers, who last won the Division III title in 2007, will face Wisconsin Whitewater (26-6) in the championship game, Saturday, March 16 at 7: 00 p.m.

DePauw's Hannah Lukemeyer Wins NCAA Elite 89 Award

DePauw sophomore Hannah Lukemeyer (Bloomington, IN/North) has been named the recipient of the Elite 89 award for the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. Lukemeyer is majoring in kinesiology and currently carries a 3.973 cumulative grade point average. The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

DPU's Kate Walker Garners WBCA All-America Recognition

DePauw senior Kate Walker (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Coaches' All-America Team as an honorable mention selection. Walker has led DPU to a 32-0 record and a spot in the NCAA Div. III Women's Basketball Tournament semifinals for the third time in school history.

NCAC Basketball Teams Eye Third Weekend of 2013 NCAA Tournament - Audio Preview

The NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments continues this weekend with the women's semifinal round Friday and the men's third round Saturday. The DePauw University women’s basketball team is headed to the semifinals for the third time in school history after cruising through the sectional rounds of the national tournament in Greencastle last weekend. The Tigers (32-0) knocked off Washington (MO), 59-42, in the sectional semifinals and then booked their ticket to Holland, Michigan, with a 76-55 triumph over Christopher Newport in the sectional finals. The Tigers, who now own the school record for wins in a season, will square off against Williams (27-5) in the national semifinals on Friday, at Hope College’s DeVos Fieldhouse. On the men's side, Wooster (24-5) cruised into the third round with an 80-54 victory over Dickinson. The Fighting Scots will now host Cabrini (24-5) at 7:00 p.m. in a third round contest on Saturday, at Timken Gymnasium. The game will feature the last two national runner-ups in Div. III, Wooster in 2011 and Cabrini in 2012. In preparation for this weekend's action, Russell Kramer, NCAC Assistant Executive Director, caught up with both head coaches to delve into each team's mindset.

Six NCAC Men's Basketball Players Named To D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team; Ohio Wesleyan's Winters Named Player Of The Year

Six North Coast Athletic Conference Men's basketball players were named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team, led by Ohio Wesleyan senior Andy Winters (Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) who was tabbed Player of the Year in the region. Along with Ohio Wesleyan, Denison, Kenyon, Wittenberg and Wooster were also represented on one of the three all-region squads.

Three North Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball players were named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team and DePauw head coach Kris Huffman was tabbed Coach of the Year. Along with DePauw, Kenyon was also represented on one of the three all-region squads.

The North Coast spring women’s season continued last week with numerous squads competing at southern spring break locations including Denison who knocked off Division I opponent George Mason led by junior Kelsey Geppner (Ann Arbor, MI/Father Gabriel Richard) in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

NCAC Weekly Release (3-11-13) - Softball

Seven of nine North Coast softball squads have kicked off the 2013 campaign and have posted a 33-21 record against non-conference opponents. Numerous conference teams will continue non-conference action this week on spring break trips in Florida.
