NCAC Weekly Release (9-10-12) - Women's Golf
ALLEGHENY, DENISON, HIRAM, OHIO WESLEYAN, WITTENBERG and WOOSTER all made the trip to the Granville Golf Course for the Denison Fall Invitational, September 8-9. Wittenberg captured the team title after carding a two-day total of 652 (332-320), followed by Denison in second with 669 strokes (335-334), Allegheny in fourth with 684 strokes (348-336), Ohio Wesleyan in sixth with 694 strokes (354-340) and Wooster in seventh with 725 strokes (367-358). In her collegiate debut, DU freshman Brynn FitzGerald (Pepper Pike, OH/Orange) shot a school-record four-over par 75 (36-39) on Saturday and fired a 77 on Sunday en route to earning medalist honors with a total score of 152. FitzGerald broke the previous school record set by teammate Amanda Castle (4/28/12) and Allie DeFries (3/28/09) by five strokes. Wittenberg was led to the team title by sophomore Nicole Waers (Canton, OH/Perry) who finished second overall in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 155 (78-77), while Allegheny senior Liz Blyth (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Madison) led the Gators after finishing in a tie for third-place with a two-day total of 161 (80-81). OWU was led at the event by sophomore Courtney Tincher (Zanesville, OH/West Muskingum) who finished fifth overall with a 163 (54-79), while Wooster freshman Sharmeen Chinoy (Kolkata, India/LaMartiniere for Girls) tied for 13th overall in her collegiate debut after carding a 170 (86-84). In addition, Hiram’s Megan Jennings finished in a tie for 49th after posting a 36-hole score of 202 (102-100).
DEPAUW shot a two-round 654 (324-330) and finished fifth overall at the Indiana University Fall Kickoff held at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Indiana, September 8-9. The host Hoosiers won the event after carding a 590 (298-292). DPU junior Paige Gooch (Ft. Mitchell, KY/Beechwood) led the Tigers in 17th-place overall after posting a two-day total of 159 (80-79), while senior Camila Romero (Cali, Columbia/Colegio Bolivar) shot a 163 (79-84) to tie for 23rd.
