2012 NCAA Div. III Women's Golf Championships
The 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships wrapped up last Friday, May 11, at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana. DePauw concluded the four-day event in second-place with 1,248 total strokes (314-307-313-314), just six strokes behind 13-time defending Div. III champion, Methodist University (1,242). In addition, Allegheny finished in a tie for ninth with St. Olaf after posting a 72-hole score of 1,277 strokes (320-320-318-319).
DPU sophomore Kelsey Smith (Indianapolis, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) led all NCAC student-athletes in the individual competition in a tie for ninth with a 72-hole score of 309 (77-81-78-73), while junior Liz Blyth (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) paced the Gators in a four-way tie for 20th with a four-day total of 313 (79-79-78-77).
The Tigers second place finish was their third in program history and marked the ninth time in 11 appearances that DPU has placed in the top five, while Allegheny extended its streak of top-10 finishes to five in a row with the ninth-place showing.
2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships
The Wittenberg University men’s golf team will represent the North Coast Athletic Conference at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships which will be held May 15-18 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. The Tigers were one of 31 teams to earn an automatic bid into the 41-team field after winning their third-straight NCAC championship.
Junior Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington), who won both the 2012 NCAC Bob Nye Championship Medalist Award and the Dick Gordin Player of the Year Award, leads the Tigers in 2011-12 with a 75.2 scoring average. Osterbrock is looking to secure his third-straight All-American certificate after earning third-team laurels in both 2010 and 2011.
Wittenberg head coach Jeff Roope, now in his fifth season leading the Red & White, earned his third straight NCAC Coach of the Year award in recognition of his team’s accomplishment this season.
