2012 All-NCAC Men's & Women's Golf Squads Announced
2012 Men's Golf All-NCAC Team -- 2012 Women's Golf All-NCAC Team
The 2012 NCAC Golf Championship Series was concluded on Sunday afternoon at the Oberlin Golf Club in Ohio. The DePauw women captured their first-ever NCAC women's golf title after posting a 72-hole score of 1,282 strokes, while the Wittenberg men won their third-straight men's title after totaling 1,500 strokes over 90 holes.
In the final men's standings, Ohio Wesleyan was second with 1,540 strokes, followed by Denison (1,549), DePauw (1,556), Allegheny (1,559), Wooster (1,564), Wabash (1,624), Kenyon (1,684), Hiram (1,698) and Oberlin (1,948).
In the final women's standings, Allegheny was second with 1,293 strokes, followed by Wittenberg (1,354), Denison (1,463), Ohio Wesleyan (1,481) and Wooster (1,548).
Wittenberg junior Craig Osterbrock (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) won both the 2012 Bob Nye Award Championship Medalist Award and the 2012 Dick Gordin Player of the Year Award by vote of the conference coaches. Osterbrock won his second-consecutive championship medalist award after totalling 363 strokes over 90-holes during the NCAC Championship Series. In addition, Wittenberg head coach Jeff Roope was selected as the NCAC Men’s Golf Coach of the Year for the third-straight season by vote of the conference coaches.
Ohio Wesleyan senior Caleb Chiero (Westerville, OH/Central) and Wittenberg freshman Alex Andrews (Kirtland, OH/Gilmour Academy) finished in a tie for second in the overall standings with 374 strokes, followed by Wittenberg sophomore Jack Uecker (Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Ohio Wesleyan junior Jerry Moore (Mogadore, OH/Mogadore) in a tie for fourth with 376 strokes apiece, while Wooster senior Michael Peters (Evanston, IL/Evanston Twp.) rounded out the all-NCAC first team in sixth-place overall with 378 strokes.
DePauw sophomore Kelsey Smith (Indianapolis, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) won the 2012 NCAC Women’s Golf Championship Medalist Award after posting a 72-hole total of 319, while Hiram senior Kritsinee Khowcharoen (Muang, Phitsanulok, Thailand/Fryeburg Academy, ME) was selected as the Women’s Golf Player of the Year by vote of he conference coaches. In addition, DePauw head coach Vince Lazar was selected the NCAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year by vote of the conference coaches.
Joining Smith on the All-NCAC First Team were teammates Paige Gooch (Fort Mitchell, KY/Beechwood) with 321 strokes, Kelly Gaughan (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) with 324 strokes, Abby Dickey (Elk Grove Village, IL/St. Viator) with 326 strokes and Taylor Beaty (Decatur, IN/DeKalb) with 326 strokes, while Allegheny senior Lauren Hammell (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) and sophomore Miranda Santucci (Carnegie, PA/Winchester-Thurston) also earned All-NCAC first team accolades with 72-hole totals of 323 and 322, respectively.
