NCAC Weekly Release (4-9-12) - Golf
The ALLEGHENY, DEPAUW and WITTENBERG men’s teams all competed at the 2012 Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate Tournament in Jacksonville, North Carolina, March 30 - April 1. Wittenberg finished 13th out of 16 teams in the Gold Championship, while DePauw was 7th and Allegheny was 14th of 15 teams in the Scarlet Championship. Allegheny sophomore Oliver White (Lower Gwynedd, PA/Heritage Acad.) was 19th in the overall individual standings on the Scarlet course with 217 strokes (70-75-72), while Wittenberg sophomore Tyler Yaple (Dublin, OH/Jerome) was 32nd overall in the Gold Championship after carding a three-day total of 218, including a collegiate-best single round score of 67 in the second round. Freshman Eric Tandy (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) paced DPU at the event with a three-round total of 216, while sophomore Charlie Castino (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) shot DPU’s low round of the tourney with a 67 in the opening round.
The HIRAM and WOOSTER men’s squads competed at the John Carroll Invitational on Monday, finishing 5th and ninth, respectively. Wooster senior Michael Peters (Evanston, IL/Evanston Twp.) finished second at the event with an 18-hole total of 74, while Hiram senior Brian Todd (Green, OH/Green) finished 11th with 79 strokes.
DENISON hosted KENYON, OBERLIN, OHIO WESLEYAN and WOOSTER for the annual Ted Barclay Invitational at Granville Golf Course. OWU secured the team title with 612 strokes (307-305), followed by Denison in second with 615 (304-311), Wooster in seventh with 634 (323-311), Kenyon in 9th with 690 (348-342) and Oberlin in 10th with 774 (393-381). Wooster’s Peters was the top NCAC finisher at the event in second place with 147 strokes, while DU sophomore Dylan Lee (Hinsdale, IL/Central) and OWU freshman Jon Neroni (Kettering, OH/Alter) finished third (72-76=148) and fifth (79-72=151), respectively. Kenyon freshman Alex Blickle (Wernersville, PA/Lancaster Country Day) finished 25th overall with 160 strokes (80-80), while Oberlin freshman Nathan Gonzales (Greeley, CO/Central) was 49th overall with 174 strokes (89-85).
WABASH and DEPAUW both competed at the annual Big Four Classic at Crooked Stick Country Club in Indiana last Thursday. Butler won the event with a 311, followed by Hanover (328), DePauw (333) and Wabash (348). DPU sophomore Graham Singer (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) paced the Tigers in fourth place after carding an 81, while the Little Giants were led by freshman Scotty Johnson (Clinton, IN/S. Vermillion) who fired an 86 to tie for 16th place in the individual standings. In addition, DePauw finished 9th of 23 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational over the weekend with a two-day total of 627 (308-319), led by freshman Ty Frost (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) who finished in a tie for 11th with 151 strokes (73-78).
The DEPAUW women’s squad was in action twice last week, finishing second at both the Big Four Classic and the Univ. of St. Francis (IN) Cougar Spring Invitational. Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Indianapolis, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) finished third at the Big Four Classic with a 79, and shared medalist honors at St. Francis with 152 strokes (76-76).
WOOSTER hosted DENISON and OHIO WESLEYAN on Saturday at the Wooster Country Club for the six-team Wooster Invitational. DU finished second with 367 strokes, followed by Wooster in fourth (395) and Ohio Wesleyan in fifth (413). OWU freshman Courtney Tincher (Zanesville, OH/W. Muskingum) won medalist honors at the event after carding an 84, while DU freshman Stacey Adams (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) finished in a tie for second with 85 strokes. Finally, Wooster freshman Alyssa Gilbert (Hinckley, OH/Walsh Jesuit) placed seventh with a team-low round of 90.
The ALLEGHENY, HIRAM and WITTENBERG women’s squads were each idle last week.
