2011 NCAC Players of the Week

October 30th

Clare Nelson-Johnson, Wooster
(Wilmette, IL/Loyola Academy)

Wooster junior Clare Nelson-Johnson helped lift the Fighting Scots to the No. 3 seed in the NCAC Tournament after totalling 11 points (5g, 1a) in the final two games of the regular season last week. Nelson-Johnson opened the week with a four-goal effort against Oberlin, and then netted the game-winner in the 37th minute against Wittenberg on Saturday.

Denison junior goalie Brittany Benson made three saves and collected her seventh shutout of the season in the Big Red’s 2-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. Benson currently leads the NCAC with a 0.61 goals against average and is second in the league in wins (14) and save percentage (.864).

October 16th

Rachel Hall, Kenyon
(Beverly Hills, CA/Harvard-Westlake)

Shots: 5        Points: 7

Kenyon freshman Rachel Hall netted the first goal in a 2-1 victory over Wooster on Tuesday, and tallied a pair of scores in the Ladies’ 5-0 triumph over Earlham on Saturday. The victory over Wooster ended Kenyon’s four-year winless drought against the Fighting Scots.

October 9th

Elizabeth Dwyer, Wittenberg
(St. Louis, MO/Ladue)

Goals: 5
Assists: 1
Points: 11

Senior Elizabeth Dwyer poured in five goals and one assist last week, including an overtime game-winner. Dwyer hit the back of the net three times with one assist in a 7-0 decision over Earlham, and then scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime victory against Ohio Wesleyan.

October 4th

Isabelle Howes, Wooster
(Dearborn, MI/Greenhills) 

Games played/started:  3/3
Goals: 1
Assists: 2
Points: 4

Junior forward Isabelle Howes assisted on two of Wooster’s five goals in a 5-2 victory over Oberlin, then scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 decision over Wittenberg. 

September 25th

Margaret Ellis, DePauw
(St. Louis, MO/Whitfield)

Assists: 3
Points: 15

DePauw junior forward Margaret Ellis scored three goals against each Ohio Wesleyan and Oberlin, and added one assist versus the Yeowomen and two more against the Battling Bishops. She scored the game-winning goals in both contests.

September 18th

Jenny Schaafsma, Wittenberg
(Grand Rapids, MI/East Grand Rapids)

Wittenberg senior goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma made 12 saves, as the Tigers defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 2-0. 

September 11th
Courtney Testani, Denison
(Trumbull, CT/Taft)

Goals: 1
Assists: 0
Points: 2

Denison freshman Courtney Testani scored her first career goal in a 2-1 victory over Brockport State. Her score broke a 1-1 tie in the 53rd minute, and lifted the Big Red to victory. Not only was it her first collegiate goal, but also it was made on her first career shot on goal. The Big Red are off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2003 season.

September 6th

Karin Yoshida, Oberlin
(Himeji, Japan/Westminster School)

Goals: 4
Assists: 1
Points: 5

Oberlin sophomore Karin Yoshida netted her first career hat trick in the Yeowomen’s 5-0 defeat of St. Vincent, then added a goal and an assist in a 6-1 decision over Sweet Briar. She finished Oberlin’s 2-1 week with four goals, one assist and five points on nine shots.
