NCAC Weekly Release (9-10-12) - Field Hockey

The North Coast entertains another full slate of conference matches this week with all eight teams playing at least one conference contest. League action gets started on Tuesday as Denison (2-0, 3-0) travels to take on Ohio Wesleyan (0-0, 1-1) in the Battling Bishops conference opener. Tuesday will also see Wittenberg (0-2, 0-4) go on the road to face Earlham (0-1, 0-4) as each team seeks its first win of the season.

Every North Coast field hockey squad but Ohio Wesleyan will see conference action in the coming week. Wednesday, Wooster (0-0, 0-2) hosts Denison (0-0, 1-0) and DePauw (0-0, 1-1) entertains Wittenberg (0-0, 0-2). On Saturday, Oberlin (0-0, 1-0) heads to Denison, while Kenyon (0-0, 0-2) travels to Earlham (0-0, 0-2).

DePauw Wins First NCAC All-Sports Title; Tigers Claimed 18 Top-Five Finishes in 2011-12

DePauw University posted top-five finishes in 18 of 23 sports to earn the North Coast Athletic Conference All-Sports Championship in its inaugural season in the league. The Tigers opened the year with top-five finishes in six of the seven fall sports, including a share of the field hockey title with Denison, and vaulted into first place in the All-Sports standings after winning the women's basketball title outright in the winter season. DePauw capped off the year with a strong showing in the spring season, finishing in the top-five in seven of the 10 sports, including outright titles in women's golf and women's tennis. The Tigers secured the 2012 All-Sports title by compiling 153.5 total points, edging out second-place Denison (153) by a half a point.

All 10 NCAC Institutions Represented in Latest Div. III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings

The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) has placed all 10 member institutions on the updated 2011-12 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings which includes the results from 2011-12 NCAA winter postseason championships. The Directors' Cup Standings measure each institution's overall achievement in postseason play by awarding points based on each team's finish in NCAA postseason competition.

Baeth Tabbed Oberlin Field Hockey Coach

Oberlin College Delta Lodge Director of Athletics & Physical Education William Roth has appointed Anna Baeth to be the new head coach of the school’s field hockey program. Baeth, a graduate of Swarthmore College, comes to Oberlin from Mount Holyoke College where she has spent the past two seasons as the team’s assistant coach.

Jacque DeMarco Selected To Guide Kenyon Field Hockey Program

Peter Smith, Kenyon College's Director of Athletics, Fitness, and Recreation, announced Tuesday that Jacque DeMarco {left} was hired as the Ladies field hockey coach. DeMarco, a former assistant at Ball State University, takes over for Chrissy Needham who departed after two seasons and a combined 17-22 record.

49 NCAC Field Hockey Athletes Named To 2011 National Academic Squad

49 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) field hockey student-athletes were recognized on the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Div. III National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad acknowledges those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

Emma Sanford Named Acting Head Field Hockey Coach At Oberlin

Oberlin Delta Lodge Director of Athletics William Roth announced that Deb Ranieri had left her position as the College’s Head Field Hockey Coach after 10 years at the helm of the program. Roth has named Assistant Coach Emma Sanford to the position of Acting Head Coach.

Denison's P.J. Soteriades Named NFHCA Great Lakes Region Coach Of The Year

Denison field hockey coach P.J. Soteriades was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year after leading the Big Red to an 18-2 overall record and a bid to the 2011 NCAA Div. III Tournament. Soteriades also led the Big Red to a share of the program's eighth NCAC Championship and first NCAC Tournament title.
