NCAC Weekly Release (9-24-12) - Cross Country
There was very minimal cross country action in the North Coast this past weekend with only three league squads in competition. This weekend’s schedule has a full slate of action, including all seven Ohio-based NCAC squads competing at the annual All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville University.
OBERLIN traveled to Williamstown, Massachusetts, on Saturday for the Williams College Purple Valley Classic. The Yeowomen finished fourth out of 15 at the event, led by sophomore Lindsay Neal (North Muskegon, MI/North Muskegon) who finished ninth overall on the 6k course with a time of 22:52. In addition, the Yeowomen finished ahead of three nationally-ranked squads at the event, including NYU, Amherst and Tufts. The Yeomen placed 11th out of 17 teams with 305 points, led by freshman Geno Arthur (Camarillo, CA/Rio Mesa) who finished 30th overall after covering the 8k course in a time of 27:17.
HIRAM competed over the weekend at the Lorain County Community College Invitational. The men finished third out of four teams, while the women were fifth out of seven squads. The men were led by freshman Matthew Walker (Stow, OH/Stow) in 13th-place overall after he covered the 8k course in 29:04.69, while the women were led by freshman Taylor Shutler (Salem, OH/South Range) who was 29th overall with a time of 23:12.86 on the 6k course.
WITTENBERG was in action on Saturday in Westerville, Ohio, at the Otterbein Invitational. The men’s squad finished ninth overall, while the women were sixth out of 12 teams at the event. The men were led by senior Trevor Grandy (Dublin, OH/Coffman) who paced a short-handed Tiger contingent in 16th place with a time of 27:45 on the 8k course. In the women’s race, junior Molly King (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) led the Tigers in sixth-place overall with a time of 19:19 over the 6k course.
