Kenyon sophomore forward Ikenna Nwadibia led the Lords to a spot in the NCAC Tournament on Saturday as the squad faced a must-win scenario after losing at Denison on Wednseday. He netted a game-high 23 points against the Gators of Allegheny while alro pulling down 12 rebounds. For the week, Nwadibia averaged 19 points and 8.5 rebounds.

Kenyon sophomore guard Maureen Hirt’s sophomore season has been one for the Kenyon record book. Her 457 points are the third-most by a Lady, her 18.3 ppg scoring average ranks ninth all-time, her 82 three-pointers also is third on the single-season chart and her .451 three-point percentage is far and away the best ever by a Kenyon player.  Last week, Hirt scored 48 points in two games, including going 22-of-25 from the charity stripe, grabbed 10 rebounds and had two steals.

February 12th

Sophomore Andy Walsh scored a career-high 18 points coming off of the bench to help Wabash hand Wittenberg its second loss of the season. He connected on 7-of-10 shot attempts, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Three days later he topped that effort with 20 points against Kenyon to lead all scorers once again. Walsh was 7-of-12 from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. For the week he shot 14-of-22 from the field for 63.6 percent and 6-of-10 from long range for 60 percent.

Sophomore Erica Restich had a huge week, starting with her performance against Hiram on Wednesday. In a crucial road game for the Gators, Restich turned in the greatest game of her career.  She scored 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting, grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds, and dished out a career-high ten assists to record Allegheny’s first triple-double in more than 25 years. Erica had just as big an impact in Saturday’s overtime loss against Denison, tying a season-high with 25 points.  

February 5th

Wittenberg senior Clayton Black led the Tigers to two wins last week to keep WIT in charge
of the conference race with a two-game lead over second-place Wooster heading into the final two weeks of the regular
season. Black went 6-of-11 from the field and from the free-throw line in a 66-58 comeback win over Ohio Wesleyan on
Wednseday, leading his team with 18 points against the Battling Bishops just days removed from scoring his 1,000th
point versus DePauw. Black then turned in a 14-point, six-rebound effort against Allegheny, adding four assists, two
steals and one blocked shot.

DePauw sophomore guard Ali Ross led the Tigers to their first NCAC championship last week as she averaged 13.7 points, three assists, 2.7 steals and 1.3 rebounds. She scored 18 points and added four assist and three steals during the Tigers conference-clinching victory over Hiram. The conference championship is the third straight for DePauw and the 13th in Kris Huffman’s 19 years as head coach.  

January 29th

Allegheny sophomore guard Ryan Stanko led the Gators to their second conference
victory of the season against Hiram, 65-60. With the Terriers looking to rally, Stanko triggered a second-half surge to
keep Allegheny in front. He scored all 13 of his points during a torrid three-minute stretch late in the game (7:47-4:31) to
help keep Hiram’s comeback bid at bay. Against Kenyon, Stanko led all scorers with 19 points in a narrow 73-72 setback
against the Lords. For the week, Stanko averaged 16 points, 2.5 rebounds and shot 62 percent (8-of-13) from beyond
the arc.

Hiram senior guard Tiffany Shields led the way for the Terriers as she averaged 15 points and 8.5 rebounds on the week.  In a loss to Allegheny, Shields was one rebounds shy of a double-double as she posted 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.  In a victory over Denison, Shields netted a game-high 20 points, connecting on 3-of-4 three-point attempts, and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. 

January 22nd

Josh Claytor, Wooster

Wooster junior Josh Claytor led the Scots to a pair of victories over Allegheny, 73-51, and Ohio Wesleyan, 72-68, to move into a tie for fourth place in the conference. Claytor totaled 36 points and 15 rebounds on the week to go along with three steals, two assists and a blocked shot. His scoring was highlighted by going 16-for-20 from the field, which includes a perfect eight-for-eight performance against Ohio Wesleyan Saturday night. Claytor led Wooster in scoring and rebounding each game, posting 16 points and eight rebounds against Allegheny, and 20 points (two shy of his career high) with seven rebounds against Ohio Wesleyan.

 

Maureen Hirt, Kenyon

Kenyon sophomore Maureen Hirt ignited the Ladies offense on the week, scoring 46 points (23.0 ppg) after shooting 61 percent (17-of-28) from the field and a blistering 70 percent (9-of-13) from three-point range. She moved into the national lead for three-point field goals made per game (3.8) after nailing seven-consecutive treys in Kenyon’s 74-51 victory over Wittenberg. In addition, she added 16 points and two more three-point buckets in the Ladies’ 63-61 setback against OWU.

January 15th

DePauw senior Sean Haseley helped the Tigers upset a pair of nationally-ranked teams in back-to-back games for the first time since 2002 as DPU upended No. 14 Wabash, 64-55, and No. 16 Wooster, 75-66, last week. Haseley scored 29 points on the week after shooting 60 percent from the field, 70 percent from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. On the week, 21 of his 29 points and five of his seven three point baskets came in the second halves of the victories. Additionally, he added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals against Wabash and Wooster combined.

Wittenberg senior Sarah Watson led the Tigers in an upset victory over Denison, 59-57, with team-highs in points (14) and rebounds (8). It was Watson’s ninth double figure scoring output of the season and her fifth game with at least eight rebounds. She shot 46 percent (5-of-11) from the field and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line, including knocking down a pair of free throws with 3:04 left in the contest that helped spark Wittenberg’s comeback victory over DU.

Wabash senior forward Derek Bailey led the Little Giants to a 77-70 victory over Hiram on Friday with a career-high 28 points after shooting 47 percent (9-of-19) from the field and 46 percent (6-of-13) from three-point range. Nearly 24 hours later, he set a new career benchmark in scoring with a 32-point performance in the Little Giant’s 61-47 victory over Allegheny. Against the Gators, Bailey shot 55 percent (12-of-22) from the field and 50 percent (8-of-16) from beyond the arc. On the week, Bailey scored 60 points and shot 51 percent (21-of-41) from the field and 48 percent (14-of-29) from three-point range.

Denison junior Serafina Nuzzo helped DU secure a pair of league victories last week, including a 64-60 overtime triumph over league-rival Kenyon to stretch the Big Red’s winning streak against the Ladies to nine-straight. Nuzzo poured in 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists against KC, and then added 19 points, five assists and three steals against Wooster.

Wittenberg senior Clayton Black was named the MVP of the Charles B. Zimmerman Classic for the second straight year after he led the tournament in shooting at an 84 percent (16-of-19) clip. He also tied for the tournament lead with 21 rebounds and was second in scoring with 39 points. In four games combined over the holiday break, Black shot 63 percent (22-of-35) from the field and 70 percent (12-of-17) from the free throw line to go along with 31 rebounds and six assists.

Sarah McQuade, Ohio Wesleyan

Ohio Wesleyan freshman guard Sarah McQuade was named the MVP of OWU’s Bishop Classic/Hoops for Hope Tournament, leading the Battling Bishops to victories over PSU-DuBois and Marietta. McQuade posted a tournament record 10 assists and pulled down seven rebounds in the opening win against PSU-DuBois and then scored 16 points and dished out four assists in the title game against Marietta. She closed out the two-day event by scoring the game-winning bucket against Marietta with just 18 seconds left in the contest.

December 18th

Denison senior Larry Farmer came off the bench in a pair of contests last week and scored 46 points in 59 total minutes of action. He led the Big Red with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field in a 66-54 victory of Mt. St. Joseph. He also poured in 26 points earlier in the week in a six-point setback, 69-63, against Albion. Farmer is just 75 points shy of becoming the 18th player in DU history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau.

Allegheny Heidi Goeller led the Gators with 27 points and 13 rebounds in a 91-89 come-from-behind overtime victory against Mount Aloysius. Goeller’s performance was her fourth double-double of the season and second in as many games. Through her first 11 games, Goeller is second in the NCAC with 179 points (16.3 ppg).

December 11th

Ohio Wesleyan senior wing Tim Brady helped the Battling Bishops to a pair of league wins last week against Kenyon and DePauw. Brady tossed in 22 points against the Lords and followed with a season-high 33-point effort against DPU on Saturday. Brady currently leads the NCAC in scoring with 207 points (23.0 ppg) through the first nine games of the season. OWU is 8-1 to open the season for the first time since the 1961-62 season behind Brady’s strong start.

Junior Heidi Goeller helped first-place Allegheny improve to 3-0 in league play with a 26-point, 10-rebound performance in the Gators’ 74-59 victory over Oberlin on Saturday. Goeller had pin-point accuracy against the Yeowomen, shooting 79 percent (11-of-14) from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Through 10 games this season, Goeller is averaging 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Aldrich was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week last week for her strong performance at the Washington (MO) Thanksgiving Classic.

He also added seven points and a season-high nine rebounds in a 67-59 triumph over Elmhurst in the semifinals of DePauw’s Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer Challenge.

Hiram sophomore Aaron Stefanov led the Terriers to a pair of season-opening victories over Mount Union, 86-72, and Notre Dame (OH), 84-73. Stefanov logged a career-high 29 point performance against Mount Union and then posted a 16-point effort in the victory over NDC. In addition, Stefanov carried a hot hand on the week, shooting 47 percent (13-of-28) from the field, 43 percent (9-of-21) from beyond the arc and 91 percent (10-of-11) from the free throw stripe.

Kenyon sophomore Maureen Hirt opened the season strong by tossing in 60 points in the Ladies’ first three games. She fired in 12-of-28 three point attempts and also racked up 18 rebounds and 10 assists. In two games at the Wilmington Tip-Off Tournament, Hirt averaged 21.5 points and 8.0 rebounds to land a spot on the All-Tournament team.
