NCAC Weekly Release (5-14-12) - NCAA Baseball Tournament
Wooster (27-16), which claimed its 14th all-time North Coast Athletic Conference baseball championship and the conference’s automatic bid, will be joined by DePauw (33-12) in the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament after the Tigers earned an at-large invitation.
The Fighting Scots will compete in the 2012 Marietta Regional, hosted by Marietta College, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. Wooster will face third-seeded Adrian College on Wednesday, May 16 at 4:30 p.m. A victory would place the Scots in the winners bracket where they would take on the winner of the Manchester/Washington & Jefferson contest. A loss would put Wooster in the losers braket where they would take on the loser of the MC/W&J matchup in an elimination game on Thursday, May 17.
DePauw will travel to the 2012 Rhodes Regional in Millington, Tennessee and will take on fourth seeded Emory (26-12) in the opening round on Wednesday, May 16th at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers are making their seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament after a historic season which saw them climb to their highest national ranking in program history after reaching No. 11 on the ABCA Coaches’ Poll on April 17. If DePauw wins its opening round matchup they would face the winner of the Washington (Mo.)/Webster contest, but if the Tigers were to lose against Emory, they would face the winner of the Birmingham-Southern/Illinois Wesleyan matchup on Thursday, May 17.
Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis., May 25-29.
The winner of the Rhodes Regional will take on the winner of the Eastern Conneticut State Regional and the winner of the Marietta Regional will face the winner of the Linfield Regional in the opening round of the NCAA Baseball Championships.
