NCAC newcomer DePauw (12-4, 30-10) earned the top seed in the West Division and will open tournament play on Thursday at 4:00 PM against Wooster (11-5, 23-15), which qualified for the tournament after finishing second in the East. Wooster won the tie break over Allegheny for the East Division’s second spot in the NCAC Tournament via a coin flip. Kenyon (13-3, 27-10), which secured the top spot in the East, will square off against Ohio Wesleyan (9-7, 22-16), which finished second in the West. The double-elimination tournament continues on Friday with the winners of Thursday’s contests squaring off at 12:00 PM with a spot in the championship round on the line, while the losers of Thursday’s games will meet on Friday at 4:00 PM in an elimination game. The winner of Friday’s elimination game will then take on the loser of Friday’s first game at 7:00 PM to determine the final spot in the championship round. Saturday’s championship round will be played at 1:00 PM and 30 minutes following Game 6 (if necessary). Wooster leads the league with 13 titles all-time (2009-10, ‘04-’06, ‘02, 1998, ‘95, ‘90-’91, ‘87-’88, ‘85), while Ohio Wesleyan has captured 10 conference crowns (2007-’08, ‘03, ‘00-’01, 1996, ‘94, ‘92, ‘89, ‘86). The two schools have combined to win 10 of the last 11 NCAC titles, with Wabash interrupting that string last season. Allegheny is the only other school to have won an NCAC championship with four all-time, winning outright titles in 1999, 1997 and 1993, and sharing the inaugural crown with Wooster in 1985. TICKETS: The prices for admission to the 2012 NCAC Baseball Tournament are $7 for adults and $3 for students and children. Each ticket is good for one day of admission at the tournament. |
