NCAC Weekly Release (2-19-12) -- Spring Sports
DEPAUW was idle last week, but will open up its 2012 schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Washington University of Saint Louis on Saturday and Sunday in Missouri.
KENYON opened its 2012 season over the weekend in Virginia, dropping a three-game series against Virginia Intermont (8-2, 3-0, 10-4). Freshman Jake Dunn (Fairfield, CT/St. Georges) was a bright spot for the Lords as he debuted with five hits, including three doubles, in nine at-bats for a .556 average in the series.
WABASH lost its opening games of the 2012 season at Rhodes College on Saturday by scores of 4-3 and 5-2. Senior right-hander Andrew Swart (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) went the distance in his first outing of the season, scattering four hits over 6.1 innings of work. He struck out six with two walks and one intentional pass in the loss. In addition, junior outfielder Montana Timmons (Lafayette, In/McCutcheon) went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with one double and four RBI.
Men's Lacrosse Notes
DENISON opened its 2012 campaign with a 21-1 victory over Mount Saint Joseph. Cory Couture scored seven goals and added three assists to lead No. 15 Denison to the victory. The Big Red will travel to ODAC power Washington & Lee next Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. clash with the Generals in Lexington, Virginia.
KENYON entered the fourth quarter of its season opener tied, 6-6, only to see McDaniel score five unanswered goals en route to an 11-6 win over the Lords. Senior Geoff Akie (Sherborn, MA/Dover-Sherborn) scored two goals and dished out an assist for the Lords.
